Hi my loves!
I haven't sat down at my computer in almost a week, and I'm so behind on my blog reading and celebrity gossip.
Today is the first day of school for many kids in the area, including my town. It's kind of bittersweet to watch all of them in their new school outfits march down the street to the bus stop. Facebook is full of pictures of kids holding up their "First day of 1st grade," signs, no doubt ideas everyone got from Pinterest. I can't help but wonder if I'll ever be a part of that mommy circle. Time will tell.
Labor Day weekend was a perfect mix of friends, family and relaxation, ending with a huge shindig at our house. There was a bounce house and slip-n-slide for the kids (and Steve), Cornholio, good eats and libations for the big kids. I say it often, but it was one of those days that left me with the warm fuzzies (that could have been all the Pumpking Ale I consumed), surrounded by the people in my life who make me HAPPY. I haven't laughed like that in awhile.
I did not take one picture (Huge. Blogger. Fail.) of the party, so I will leave you with this...
With a change in the season means it's time to make some life changes. Cliche, of course, but, luckily I have some of my favorite girls (Brie and Steph) alongside taking part in some of these DUMB changes.
The amount of money I spend on shit I don't need is disgusting. Like most women, I have this knack for being able to walk into any store and walk out with ALL THE THINGS!!!
In August alone, Steve and I spent well over $1000 going out to eat. That's 3 car payments or a few months worth of utilities. What's even more depressing is that I only spent $300 for the month at the grocery store.
Together with Brie and Steph, I'm going on the September Spending Freeze. That means only buying the essentials (food and moisturizer) and budgeted nights out, and at the end of the month, see how much I was able to save.
On October 1st we will document any "cheats." I'm hoping this opens my eyes to how a Starbucks trip here, and a lunch of The Pop Shop there, really adds up.
In lupus news, there isn't much to report. Last week, I finished the 3 Venofer infusions. They really kicked my ass this time around, leaving me in bed for a day or two at a time. I couldn't get enough sleep. With the way my levels quickly dropped after my first round, I think Venofer needs to be an ongoing treatment, maybe once or twice a month, to keep my iron and ferritin levels up. But, I'm not the doctor, so no one listens to me.
At the rheumatologist 2 weeks ago, Dr. M. feels the lupus is still quite active. He's adding yet another oral chemo to my regimen, methotrexate. I tried this a few years ago, and it caused migraines so bad I called an ambulance because I thought I was having a stroke.
I'm nervous to try again, but he's going with a low weekly dose since I'm already so immunosuppressed from the Benlysta, Myfortic and Prednisone. I make jokes, but I'm wondering when the time will come where I have to be really careful in public places. Flu season is just around the corner (GET YOUR FLU SHOTS!!!!), and I have visions of myself sequestered at home, so as not to catch any bugs that could wreck havoc on me.
Maybe The Biebs has the right idea...
but mine would be pink and Bedazzled.
Love you all
