They read all the books, but they can't find the answers...

I am a bookworm. Always have been.

Even in college, as long as it was a subject matter I was interested in, I never minded doing any of the required readings. There's something about the heft of a textbook that made me happy.

I remember getting my syllabus in the mail about two weeks before my first semester of nursing school began, and there were assigned chapters to read for the first day of class. I had this fear of not being prepared like Elle Woods' first class at Harvard Law in Legally Blonde, so I promptly got in my car and headed to the campus book store.

I can't even lie, the geek in me was very excited to go shopping for some shiny, new textbooks! Someone working at the bookstore pointed me in the direction of the nursing section, and I ran to them like a kid in a candy store.

I quickly gathered up all the required and recommended textbooks, and made my way up to the register.

$737.93.

I can still picture that total flash up on the digital screen. I was floored, and clearly naive to the cost of college textbooks. At the time, I worked 2 nights a week waitressing. Oh my, that was a lot of tables I'd have to wait on.

But, you can't put a price on a good education, right?

Wrong!

Allow me to tell you about an uber cool website called CampusBookRentals. It's like Blockbuster. Only textbooks. And, you know, still in business.

Yes my friends, you can rent all your college textbooks, get them shipped to you for free, use them for the semester, and send them back for free after finals! Why wasn't this around when I paid $112 for a Western Civilization book, and was only going to get $4 from my campus bookstore to buy it back?

You kids today have it so easy!

You can save 40-90% off campus bookstore prices. Think of all the great things you can do with that extra cash! Use it for your sorority/fraternity dues (if that's your thing), buy your friends a round at the bar on college night (ONLY if you are over 21 and have a designated driver!), heck, start your retirement fund! The possibilities are endless!

You're even able to highlight in the textbooks. I was one of those people who went through 10 highlighters in a semester, so this is something that would be important to me.

Another perk? And this one is my clincher (hey, everyone's got a clincher). For every textbook rented, CampusBookRentals donates to Operation Smile.

Operation Smile is an international children's medical charity with a force of medical professionals and caring hearts who provide safe, effective reconstructive surgery and related medical care for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate.

You guys know how much I love a great cause, and this is one that has personal meaning. I spent the first 3.5 years of my nursing career working on a pediatric surgical/trauma unit, taking care of children from all over the world who came to my hospital for reconstructive cranio-facial surgeries.

Operation Smile gives these children and their families hope. In many cases, it gives them their life, when they may not have been able to receive proper care elsewhere.

So for all my readers out there who are in college, or know anyone in college, I urge you to get your textbooks from CampusBookRentals. Not only will you be saving money, but, you will be saving lives!

I was compensated to write this post, however, all opinions are 100% my own.

  4. Dang what a priceless idea! I remember the sinking feeling I had when I was at the bookstore register. I worked so hard the summers before to see at all spent immediately in one swoop.

  5. I actually discovered CampusBookRentals during my junior year of college. Wow, this service made a HUGE difference, especially since I was taking out student loans to pay for my classes and living situation at the time. This provided significant savings which allowed me to live a little bit easier during the semester. BTW - it's crazy how you used to have to buy a $120+ book and then wait in a long line at the end of the semester carrying your stack of books only to have the people tell you they'll either not buy back most of them or give you maybe $10 for it...

Comments, coffee and bacon rock my socks! But, since you can't leave coffee or bacon (they really should make an app for that), then leave me some comments! I love hearing from you, and always do my best to reply to everyone. <3
