A lupus blog…

Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth…

Happy Monday, my loves!

I had a wonderful weekend, nothing crazy, but the kind that left me feeling… happy!

Valentine’s Day isn’t a big deal for Steve and me, but I wanted to do a little something on this hearts and flowers day.

I cooked.

SMD posted a recipe of braised ribs from the Pioneer Woman last week, and I decided this was our Valentine’s Day meal.

1. Getting ready to go all Pioneer Woman. Look at my pretty Dutch Oven! hehehe
2. My wine glass chandelier. I’m obsessed!
3. Happy handsome hubby!

Because I have the maturity level of a 6 year old, I giggled uncontrollably when purchasing a Dutch Oven. hehehehe

Saturday brought us a 7am wake-up call so we could watch some Olympic hockey, Team USA vs Russia. It was a heart attack inducing game, very exciting. USA caught a huge break, and then we won in a shootout. Even if you didn’t watch, I’m sure you heard all the buzz on TJ Oshie. I got Oshie fever!

A standup guy. Seriously
Steve invited a bunch of friends over for Horror Movie Night. I was feeling extremely tired and lupus-y, so while everyone was down in our basement watching something I probably would have hated anyway, I was in bed watching “He’s Just Not That Into You,” and asleep before 10pm.
Sunday, another 7am wake-up call for Team USA vs Slovakia. Although not the nail biter we saw on Saturday, Team USA brought it home with a win! Even if you don’t like sports (love em!) I don’t understand how people can’t get into the Olympics. There’s something so exciting about them. What can be cooler than doing something you love and have trained all your life for, to represent your country?? I know they aren’t saving lives or fighting for our freedom, but it is pretty flipping cool.
Steve and I had a debate over whose coffee creamer had more chemicals, and he decided to take it to Facebook. Dumb move. Naturally.
What’s the name of this game?
I WIN!!!
My sister-in-law is a food scientist, and proved Steve wrong!
Disodium phosphate (not in my creamer) for the win!
Poor Steve.
Sunday afternoon was a bridal shower for a friend from work, and Sunday evening we lounged on the couch and flipped back and forth between Bar Rescue, South Park, and The Last Airbender. I kid you not.
In bed by 10pm. Exciting lives we lead. Guess what? I love my little life!
And that was my weekend. Last week, I got some exciting news that I was nominated for a Leibster Award for a second time. Two times in ones week?!?! Well blow me down!
The lovely, insightful Iva of Yes I’m Crazy… That’s why I’m awesome (best name EVER) nominated me, and just like the other day, since I have some new peeps over at this neck of the woods, I decided to answer more questions. You can look at this post for a list of bloggers that I think are rad. You should read them…
How would your friends describe you?

Hmmm… crazy! My closest friends would probably describe me as the one they go to when they want the truth. And not just “do I look fat in this?” but about serious stuff. They know I don’t sugar coat (to a fault) and that without meaning to, I can be a little harsh. That said, I’m sure they would also describe me as a great listener, a great advice giver, funny, silly, loud, loyal and a usually happy person to be around!

If you could go back in time, what year would go back to?
I would go back to 1999. I would change where I went to college. Not that I didn’t have a blast, but I wish I would have gone farther, away from certain people. Out of state! I think this would have led to me making some better choices at that time.

What do you miss the most about being a kid?
Knowing what I know now, just how slow time seemed to pass. When you are a kid, all you want is for time to go faster and to grow up. And now that I’m grown up, I miss those carefree, lackadaisical days!

What does your perfect day look like?
I used to love days when I could lounge for hours in the sun on the beach. And even though I still do that now with the proper lupus flare prevention protective gear (SPF 100, UV tent, muumuu, big floppy hat), it really is not the same. I like to pretend it is, but, it’s not. A day that is pain free, warm (not hot), spending time with Steve, my family, and friends is a perfect day!

What was the weirdest advice/story you’ve received (parents, friend, anyone)?
After undergoing a tubal ligation last November, someone told me I was lucky to not ever have to experience pregnancy/childbirth. I know they were trying to make me feel better, but seriously???

What song is on repeat?
Happy by Pharrell Williams. What else can I say, except that this jam makes me so HAPPY! I have the You Tube video on right now, and I am bopping around in my chair. How can this song NOT lift your spirits? When I lived in Philly, I would walk/dance around the streets jamming out to whatever was on my iPod, this song reminds me of those days.
Also, does Pharrell Williams age? I’m convinced he drinks from the Fountain of Youth. Homeboy has some amazing skin…

Were you named after anyone?
In Judaism, we don’t have juniors, the third, IV… we use the first initial of a deceased relative for both first and middle names. Marla is for my grandmother, Minerva, and Jan for my great-grandfather, Joseph.

What is the first thing you notice about people?
Their eyes, smile, and if they have a butt chin. I guess that’s 3 things. And this isn’t just for the opposite sex, this is for everyone. I’ve always been jealous of girls who have butt chins. I know, weird.

How do you accept defeat or wrongdoing?
I have a cleansing, Claire Danes ugly-cry-face cry about it.

Where would you take me on a blate?
To some of my favorite places in Philly. Probably a touristy stop at the Liberty Bell, a walk past Independence Hall, then good eats at one of my favorite restaurants!

Smile! What prompts you to smile?
I smile over lots of things! Something funny on TV, a great book, seeing a patient get out of bed for the first time after heart surgery, a random thought of a funny memory, farts, amazing music, family, Brie, PJ, friends, Steve!

And there we have it friends! This post seems to be a mixed bag of goodies, so now let me bring you a most amazing giveaway I’m participating in with Alli and some other groovy girls. There’s a lot of good shit in this giveaway! Enter away!

  1. bahahaha that claire danes ugly cry. i love her – she just throws her entire being into every role she plays.

and horror night vs he's just not that into you? i'll take the latter any day. i hate horror movies; i could barely even watch walking dead last night and spent the whole hour hiding behind my husband's shoulder

    Vodka and Soda

  2. Joy says:

I'm so glad y'all had a fun weekend!! And the title of this blog — now that song is stuck in my head. But I'm okay with it because I love it! =)

  3. That chandelier is so cool looking!
I love the story behind your name! It's so interesting learning about different cultures/religions/traditions, etc! 🙂

  4. I love that chandelier and hahaha that's hilarious about the dutch oven!

  5. Rachel S says:

Can I just say how cute you and your husband are!

  6. Love the wine glass chandelier!

  7. Chelsee W says:

Oh that chandelier is gorgeous! Wow I love the creamer debate lol way to prove him wrong!

  8. that chandelier is awesome! so glad y'all had a great v-day and that your coffee creamer won. I'd feel the same way. GO USA! and yes, Pharrel doesn't age!!

  9. Claire Danes is the ugliest crier ever.

How does fat free half & half fare?

  10. first, just gonna throw it out there, hot damn woman your hubs is hot! haha!

secondly, I loved that you and your husband argued over creamer and you won! totally sounds like an argument Dave and I would have. thirdly, the claire danes ugly cry….wow, had me ugly laughing! I will never look at her the same again

  11. Oh geez, I probably look like Clare Danes when I ugly cry, or at least I feel like I do! I liked this mixed bag of goodies of a post. I agree about eyes and smiles revealing a lot about someone and I totally miss how long our summer breaks seemed to be. Now everything seems to go by so fast!

  12. Carly says:

Don't hate me, but I think I am the only person on earth who finds that Pharrell song annoying 🙁 I don't know what it is about it.

Also, I love me some amaretto creamer, chemicals and all, and I need that wine glass chandelier in my life!

  13. First, I'm absolutely in love with your chandelier! Second, I love the creamer you use as well! It's so good, but it's hard to find in the stores around here :/ The way they stock the stores in Boston pisses me off. Why can't they ALL have the same stock?!?! Also, what other chemicals were in his cream? Disodium phosphate isn't great, but it's not that bad (although it will start leaching calcium if you have too much of it)

  14. I thought I was the only one over the age 10 who still laughs out loud every time "dutch oven" is listed in a recipe. Mannnn it never gets old!

  15. Rachael says:

Did you make that wineglass chandelier?? It's so cool. Can you actually take the glasses off to use them? Haha. I also giggle whenever people talk about their Dutch Ovens, and I giggle even more when someone doesn't know what a dutch oven is. I'm glad you won the battle over who's creamer is better!! Marla for the win!! Oh and also, I had the worst blog-related nightmare the other day! I'll have to email you about it. *shudder*

  16. Looks like you did a great job on your ribs! I laugh at dutch oven too, every time my mom says she's cooking in hers I laugh and she doesn't get it.

  17. holli says:

Chandelier- I need it , must have it, send it please.
Olympics- Cant get enough and I love it all.
Pharrells song Happy is awesome but not loving his yogi bear hat.
Dutch oven- i dont have one but must get soon. The solid one and not the kind Todd would like to give.
One of my besties is Jewish and i Seriously had no idea about the name thing. Thats so cool!
I've been doing the ugly cry lately and i know i must look worse that that pic.
Lastly, You've been quite the giveaway girl lately. 🙂

  18. Watching chick flicks in bed would totally win for me. Hope you're feeling less sleep/lupusy today. And that chandelier is AMAZING.

  19. AwesomelyOZ says:

Woohooo thanks for the mention love!! I feel special 🙂 You go girl you had an action packed post today what what! Lmfao I swear we were watching "He's Just Not That Into You" at hte same time because I watched it too! Fuck horror movies, I don't like to be scared I do that on my own thanks! Wait – is that the creamer you buy at the store near the milk???? What creamer are you using?? I am slowly trying to cut out bad stuff (minus the Cheesey poofs – sometimes you need some Cheesey poofs). And yes, I listen to that damn Happy song everyday it makes me so HAPPY – I don't know how he did it but he captured that emotion right on POINT! He's so sexy. Happy Presidents Day love! -Iva

  20. Cheriese says:

Even though I've got One D playing I totally just started singing Happy out loud! I can't believe Pharrell is 40!!
I would have escaped the horror movie night too!
I love the whole naming tradition, I want to do this!! Beautiful!
I'm a huge sports fan and I can't get enough of the Olympics, even the Curling is awesome, I don't know why people complain about that sport!!
Haha, love that you won the creamer argument, you guys are too cute xx

  21. Gwen says:

I just want everyone to know that I've seen that kick-ass chandelier in person!

I'm also a sucker for eyes. And I'll never understand what people think is appropriate to say in awkward situations.

  22. Joey says:

I am OBSESSED with your wine glass chandelier!!! Seriously! Obsessed!! And I'm really glad I'm not the only one who still giggles at Dutch Oven. Every time it's mentioned–I giggle like a 12 year old boy.
