Start wearing purple for me now…
Happy Friday Eve, mofos!
It’s been one of those weeks that at first seemed to drag, and now I’m all ‘holy shit, it’s Thursday already?!?!?”
I still haven’t written about the Transforming Healthcare Conference or the Lupus Summit at Glaxo Smith Kline, but I’ll get there. I promise.
Today I’m restarting chemo after a 2 month hiatus for the breast implant/reconstruction surgery, so I’m probably getting the poison pumped into my vena cava as you read this. Not a fun way to kick off the unofficial start to the summer, but such is life.
Last Friday was Put On Purple Day for Lupus Awareness Month. I’m still shocked over the number of people who Facebooked/Tweeted/Instagramed me pics of grape flavored support. You all put a bunch of smiles on my face, which no doubt is much cuter than I look right now dry heaving from my meds.
<3 So much cute in this picture <3
LOVE Park in Philadelphia got in on the Put On Purple action!
Went to the World Lupus Day Rally with Brie
I’m one of those geeks who thinks the local news broadcasters are famous, and I get giddy when I see a news truck. April 2014, Steve and I were at a bar in Philly, enjoying that it was almost empty, a rare find on a Saturday night in center city. In walked a large, rowdy group, plus a bunch of people with fancy cameras. It took less than 5 seconds for me to recognize a number of them were anchors for NBC 10 Philadelphia. And I lost my mind. Famous people!
While 99% of the bar, including my husband, couldn’t take his or her eyes off Sheena Parveen (who is even more stunning in person… that bitch! I kid, I kid!), I was total fan-girl crushing over Bill Henley, another meteorologist. I think it’s the hair, very Anderson Cooper…. but he’s straight. And the whole science nerd thing. I told Steve I was going to say hi, but I was fat and bald from steroids and chemo, there were 900 Sheena lookalikes surrounding them all, and I chickened out. So I decided to Tweet him to wear purple for the Put On Purple Day that was coming up. I didn’t think he would, so you could imagine my surprise when everyone, even Sheena, was wearing purple for #POP Day 2014!
This year I
bugged the shit out of tweeted Bill Henley a million times again to see if he could show a little Lupus Love for the 2nd year in a row. And some of the other anchors got in on the tweets!
Eeeeeeeeeek!!!! The most amazing part was that other nerd fan-girls and guys saw the tweets, and posted pictures of themselves wearing purple.
Yeah, that happened. Sometimes I just can’t help myself.
Almost all of the evening NBC 10 anchors wore purple, too! Even Sheena!
I know it’s not a big deal to throw on some purple and snap a picture, but it means everything to me. Seeing the pictures of all of you pop up on my various news feeds made my day, and I was most likely one of the happiest gals on the planet.
You love me, you REALLY, REALLY love me!!
And I love all of you! Now, back to my
Luck Fupus, Bitches!!!
